Home improvements banned in Beverly Hills over housing row

The rich and famous of Beverly Hills have been banned from improving their homes until plans for affordable housing are submitted.

A judge has issued a moratorium on building permits to punish California’s wealthiest areas for their failure to comply with state rules on affordable homes, which are designed to tackle the state’s dire housing crisis.

California has demanded that the city come up with 3,104 new homes, with three-quarters classed as “affordable”. Current Beverly Hills plans only provide for three new homes.
