Liverpool City Council has given the go-ahead for McLaren Property’s purpose-built student accommodation scheme to be delivered on Myrtle Street, neighbouring the University of Liverpool campus.
The 242-bedroom block, designed by Cartwright Pickard, has a gross development value of £30m.
Almost a third of the scheme will be studios and the rest are arranged in four, five and six-bedroom clusters around common rooms. The proposals also include shared facilities like a laundry, bookable guest rooms, a social lounge, study hub and cinema room.
The building will target BREEAM Excellent certification.
McLaren Property regional managing director Tom Gilman said: “We’ve worked closely with Liverpool City Council to deliver a scheme that is sensitively designed and one which respects neighbouring heritage.
“We’ll get started and regenerate this site and bring forward a vibrant student hub on the edge of Liverpool’s knowledge district.”
