Manchester-based consultancy makes first acquisition

Contollo Group, a newly established building consultancy backed by private equity firm NorthEdge, has acquired Abacus, a Manchester-based cost and project management consultancy.

The move comes as the founders of Contollo are seeking to form a new mid-sized consultancy that works with commercial developers to offer building consultancy, with particular expertise in smart buildings.

Abacus was established in 2007 by Mike Perry and Ellis Goodfellow. Perry has previously worked on projects including student accommodation, luxury apartments, hotels, education, sports and leisure and industrial, while Goodfellow’s expertise lies in cost planning and effective development strategies, particularly during the inception/feasibility phase.

Ruth Percival, chief executive of Contollo, said: “Our mission is to build a market-leading, integrated building consultancy that helps our clients achieve their net zero ambitions in the built environment. This acquisition lays a robust foundation of experience and expertise for further acquisitions and growth.”

Goodfellow, who will assume the role of chief commercial officer of Contollo, added: “We have been planning the next stage of growth for Abacus over many months and have built a close worki

ng relationship with Ruth and the Contollo team. We have an ambitious growth plan and through this partnership we will be working collaboratively with other sector-leading consultancies.”
