Property tycoon recruited “thugs” in row over loft space, court told

The family of property tycoon Nicholas Van Hoogstraten recruited “armed thugs” to “burgle” a luxury flat in central London in a row over a roof extension, the High Court has been told.

The row relates to loft space above a flat in Chelsea owned by businesswoman and property management director Maria El Massouri. Omani Estates – a property company run by Van Hoogstraten’s eldest son Max Hamilton and three of his siblings – claims it owns the loft space.

Both parties are accused of trespassing. Both deny the claims.

El Massouri claims that workers sent by Omani Estates entered the space using scaffolding and blocked the space off.

Omani is counter claiming seeking an order that it owns the space. It denies that it ordered “thugs” or anyone to enter the flat.
