Rental growth slows most in London

The pace of rental growth in the UK slowed last month to its weakest level in more than a year, according to Hamptons.

The estate agent found that average rents for newly let properties nationwide had risen by 8.3% over the year to January.

A sharp reduction in rental growth in London pulled the national figure down. Hamptons said rents in the capital increased by 8.1% in January, down from 17.1% in summer 2023.

Average rents in the capital still remain the highest in the country at £2,315 per month.
