Plans in for Edinburgh Arena

O2 owner AEG Europe has submitted plans for an 8,500-capacity arena in Edinburgh.

The 185,000 sq ft venue will revitalise scrubland and support the regeneration of the Edinburgh Park area alongside master developer Parabola.

The project will deliver an estimated £520m per annum in gross value added to the Edinburgh economy. Some 1,360 jobs will be created at the arena once developed, with a further £83m of capital being added back into Edinburgh by tourist and visitor spend.

Alex Hill, president and chief executive at AEG Europe, said: “The city has long been renowned as a destination for global culture and one of the world’s best for the arts and live entertainment. We are excited to build on this reputation and bring world-class live music and entertainment to Edinburgh, as well as investing in the wider Edinburgh Park community through the creation of 1,000-plus employment opportunities.”

AEG hopes to get planning for the project in June.
