City & Country acquires £14m Bath Press scheme

City & Country has acquired the 5.3-acre Bath Press development site for £13.8m from Abrdn.

The site in Bath, which came onto the market in 2023, has planning permission for a development of 277 homes, granted in November 2022.

The scheme proposes a mix of 247 apartments and 30 townhouses, alongside 16,200 sq ft of ground-floor office space.

The approved scheme also includes the provision of 122 car parking spaces and 596 cycle stores.

Dating back to the 1890s, the original Bath Press was home to the Pitman Press printing works.

The site became vacant in 2007 and was subsequently demolished in September 2017 when Abrdn secured planning for a smaller scheme on the site consisting of 244 homes.

Following its acquisition of the site, City & Country is due to commence work on the present planning permission to provide 277 homes, “as soon as possible”.

City & Country land and property director Simon Marner said: “This is a significant acquisition for the business, with the site due to deliver more than 250 units in addition to the commercial space.”

Savills acted for Abrdn on the sale.
