Bruntwood SciTech has secured planning permission to deliver up to 390,000 sq ft of lab and office space at Melbourn Science Park in Cambridgeshire.
The proposals, unveiled in March last year, have a gross development value of £250m.
The transformation of the park, designed by architect Sheppard Robson, will see the refurbishment of three existing buildings to accommodate up to 75 firms, from start-ups through to international research and development centres.
The plans also feature a new 18-bedroom hotel and a gastropub.
All new buildings within the park’s masterplan are targeted to be net zero carbon in construction and operation. Retained buildings will be upgraded to maximise energy efficiency.
The first phase of redevelopment is anticipated to begin later this year and reach completion in 2026. The wider masterplan is expected to be completed in about 10 years.
Daron Williams, building consultancy director at Bruntwood SciTech, said: “Approval of our transformational plans for Melbourn Science Park means we can progress forwards with providing lab and office space for science and tech businesses who want to be at the heart of Cambridgeshire’s innovation ecosystem.
“It is also a sign of our continued commitment to supporting the growth of the life science sector right across the UK, helping businesses to innovate, collaborate, grow, and compete globally.”
The plans follow Bruntwood SciTech’s investment of £500m in October last year to support the UK’s innovation economy, and Greater Manchester Pension Fund joining the Bruntwood and Legal & General-backed partnership.
