Watkin Jones files plans for 1,000-bed Belfast PBSA scheme

Watkin Jones and Lacuna Developments have submitted a planning application for a 1,007-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.

TQ Student Village will comprises four blocks ranging from five to nine storeys in height. It is located between the new Olympic House office building and Belfast Metropolitan College.

The jv’s proposals also include 385,000 sq ft of external floorspace, as well as a café, cycle storage and communal facilities including landscaped courtyards.

The five-acre vacant brownfield site has an extant planning permission for the building of a 600,000 sq ft financial services campus, granted in 2010.

TQ Student Village will be Watkin Jones’ second scheme in Titanic Quarter, having last year signed a deal with Legal & General and Clanmil Housing Association to forward-fund its £175m Loft Lines project.

The £155m forward-funding deal backed the development of 778 homes, of which 627 will be build-to-rent and 151 affordable.
