Summix Capital has acquired Independent House in Dublin 1, a 114,000 sq ft office which was formerly the headquarters for the Independent Group of newspapers.
Summix plans to convert the building into a 280-bed student housing scheme.
Independent House is the former headquarters and printing centre for national newspapers the Irish Independent, Evening Herald and Sunday Independent.
It comprises the former printing workspace from basement to first floor and associated offices, workshops, and newsrooms throughout.
The 0.72 acres site, at 87/93 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1, is understood to have sold for £9m. It was previously owned by Primark.
The building closed in the early 2000s and has been vacant for over two decades.
Summix Capital executive director Niamh O’Connor said: “The next chapter for Independent House will seek to bring modern purpose-built student accommodation into the heart of the city and to an area already seeing significant change and regeneration”
The sales process was overseen by Savills.
