Liverpool City Council has rejected plans to convert Centric House to residential owing to its lack of affordable housing.
CERT Property bought the building in 2018 as its first investment in Liverpool. The developer refurbished the building, previously occupied by Barclays Bank, providing office space alongside co-working facilities.
CERT was looking to convert the offices, located opposite Moorfields train station, into 45 one- and two-bedroom flats. The scheme, designed by FCH Architects, included 11 car parking space, 45 cycle parking spaces and a reception area.
The plan to convert the building into residential space came after the building had remained largely vacant for two years and after CERT identified strong demand for high-quality housing in Liverpool’s central business district.
The scheme was originally recommended for approval during the planning committee meeting earlier this month. However, during the second review this week, councillors rejected the plan owing to its lack of affordable housing and open space.
Enabl advised on planning matters.
