Student Roost acquires PBSAs in Manchester and Birmingham

The Triangle, Birmingham, which Student Roost purchased from Galliard and Apsley House Capital

Student Roost has acquired two sites with planning permission for purpose-built student accommodation in Manchester and Birmingham.

The sites will add a total of 1,850 beds to Student Roost’s UK portfolio.

The company bought the Manchester site, which is part of the One Medlock scheme, from Dominus. The scheme was granted planning permission in June 2023.

The 37-storey building will deliver 1,014 beds and 13,000 sq ft of resident amenities.

The One Medlock scheme also includes a 13-storey office building, and the office element will have capacity for 2,200 people. However, this part of the development was not included in the deal with Student Roost, which has only acquired the PBSA section.

Student Roost’s site in Birmingham was acquired from Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital. The Triangle, which comprises two blocks of four and six storeys, got planning permission in April.

The student rooms are a mix of 472 self-contained studio rooms and 364 en suite rooms which are arranged in clusters of four to eight bedrooms, along with student amenities such as a gym, cinema, study room, wellness area and lounge.

The scheme will also provide 26,000 sq ft of commercial space, a community medical centre, 472 cycle parking spaces and 31 car parking spaces.

Both sites will be delivered by Greystar.
