Crown Estate takes on JLL London property management team

The Crown Estate has taken over the JLL property management teams acting on its London portfolio, to create its own in-house property management division.

As part of the move, the firm appointed former JLL director William Maugham as head of property management for its St James’s portfolio, SW1.

Maugham, who transitioned to his new role earlier this week, is set to be joined by more JLL colleagues, including the finance team that supports its London portfolio, in the autumn.

JLL has been managing agent on the landowner’s central London portfolio since 2019. The agent was tasked to improve quality and consistency, and encourage innovation in the estate.

The mandate, which spanned property and facilities management services, encompassed all commercial and residential properties across the Crown Estate’s central London holdings, including Regent Street and around half of St James’s, totalling 10m sq ft.

Simon Harding-Roots, managing director for London at the Crown Estate, said: “As part of the transfer of services we are pleased to welcome many of our JLL colleagues into the Crown Estate, as the new ‘London property management’ team, who will be joined in the autumn by the current JLL finance team that supports our London portfolio.

“We look forward to building even closer relationships with our customers as we seek to deliver services with safety, quality of experience and sustainability at their heart.”

The news comes days after Savills took over Montagu Evans’ UK property management business. As part of that deal, Savills hired a near-100-strong team led by head of property management Andrew Walker.
