Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods’ T-Squared Social has been given the go-ahead to turn an old cinema in St Andrews, Scotland, into a sports bar.
The firm plans to turn the New Picture House into a social hub for the city while helping to “ensure the long-term viability of the historic cinema”.
Two of the three screens and 345 cinema seats will be retained as part of the redevelopment, including the main auditorium, with improvements being made to both seating and technology in order to improve customers’ viewing experience.
New dining and entertainment offerings will be created, including a “functional and flexible space” encompassing a range of sports simulators including golf, rugby, lacrosse and football.
The exterior of the building, which was built in the 1930s, will remain unchanged, including the name above the door.
Woods and Timberlake, through their investment in US-based real estate firm Nexus Luxury Collection, already operate a number of similar leisure facilities in Manhattan and Florida.
Nexus chief executive Christopher Anand said the firm was “committed to honouring the theatre’s legacy while creating a modern entertainment destination”.
Savills advised on planning.
