Hospitality firm Whitbread has launched a second public consultation round on its proposals for the redevelopment of the Premier Inn site on Prince of Wales Road in Norwich.
The move follows an earlier consultation which revealed Whitbread’s plans to replace the existing 159-bedroom hotel, restaurant, commercial facilities, car-parking spaces and surrounding land with a larger Premier Inn and introduce purpose-built student accommodation and new homes.
The proposed scheme, designed by Sheppard Robson, also includes landscaped areas with an enhanced river walkway to the south-east of the site, fronting on to Norwich station.
Following the first consultation round, Whitbread has proposed to cut the height of the PBSA tower and enhance views of St Faith’s House and the Old Weaver’s building from the residential block.
Whitbread is looking to submit a full planning application for the redevelopment to Norwich City Council this September.
Richard Pearson, senior development manager at Whitbread, said: “We have received strong support for what we are seeking to achieve, and our updated proposals have been shaped by the many comments we received, as well as further input from our architect, landscape and planning teams and officers at Norwich City Council.
“The goal is to create a new development which refreshes our hotel offer for our guests, makes best use of the site and the gateway location, provides public space for the city, and integrates with its surroundings.”
