Council backs plans for new homes at Weybridge college

Elmbridge Borough Council has granted permission for Cala Homes and Brooklands College to redevelop and refurbish parts of the college in Weybridge, Surrey, bringing forward 320 new homes.

The residential element of the scheme will include 128 affordable homes.

The wider development sits on the 66.7-acre green belt site and features a new college building for students with special educational needs, together with a sports hall, gym and community hub.

Several of the college’s existing buildings will be refurbished and the Grade II listed mansion building will be restored.

The planned works also include improvements to the historic gardens, provision of new publicly accessible woodland, open spaces, landscaping, pedestrian and cycle routes.

Planning and listed building consent has been secured by Lichfields, which acted on behalf of Brooklands College and Cala Homes.

Neil Goldsmith, senior director at Lichfields, said: “Redevelopment and refurbishment work can now move ahead, playing a key role in unlocking a new chapter for this site and securing its future place as an education facility hub, which will be used and enjoyed by thousands of people for years to come.”
