More than 660,000 sq ft of retail space is due to hit the market following the announced closure of all but 54 of Carpetright’s stores, according to exclusive data from EG Radius.
The company’s new owner, Tapi, bought the retailer out of insolvency this week and announced it would keep 54 stores and two warehouses.
This leaves 213 stores earmarked for closure, with the anticipated loss of 1,500 jobs.
Since its creation in 1988, Carpetright had built a network of 267 stores, 13 of which were located inside the premises of Furniture Village.
Tapi said Carpetright had been loss-making for a number of years and held significant debt.
Stores scheduled to close range from Aberdeen to Torquay and also include outlets on Jersey and Guernsey. Local authorities and pension funds make up a major chunk of the landlords who will be searching for new tenants.
