BGO has leased Orwell Logistics Park in Ipswich to Sizewell C Consortium, a group of more than 200 nuclear supply chain companies across the UK.
The park was acquired by BGO in December 2020 and is being developed in partnership with Equation Properties. Upon completion, the scheme, located on the A14 between Ipswich and Felixstowe, will span more than 1.1m sq ft of industrial buildings and 5.34 acres of open storage space.
Phase one, comprising two speculatively built facilities of 301,214 sq ft and 256,255 sq ft, has already been delivered, while phase two, totalling two buildings of 500,000 sq ft and 25,335 sq ft, is scheduled for completion in summer 2025.
Sizewell C will take immediate occupation of the two phase one facilities.
The deal comes after the consortium secured its nuclear site licence earlier this year, with this latest transaction expected to support the supply chain requirements for the construction of the 3.2-gigawatt Sizewell C nuclear power station in east Suffolk.
Orwell Logistics Park will also be the location for Sizewell C’s freight management facility, ensuring a controlled pattern of deliveries to the power station, which is currently under construction.
Nigel Cann, joint managing director at Sizewell C, said: “Orwell Logistics Park is a solution for our logistics and freight management as we begin the gradual ramp-up to peak construction over the next five years, while showing due consideration to our host communities.”
Gareth Purcell, managing partner at BGO, said: “This letting demonstrates the continued delivery across our grade-A UK logistics platform.”
Richard Batham-Read, managing director at Equation Properties, said: “The commitment from Sizewell C is a validation of the vision we have had for this project, underpinning our belief in the location representing an opportunity to capitalise on the strategic highway network and occupational requirements emanating from port activities.”
BGO was advised by JLL, M1 Agency and Penn Commercial; Gerald Eve advised Sizewell C.
