Canada Life Asset Management has been granted planning permission for the development of a 330-bed purpose-built student accommodation development in partnership with the University of the West of England, Bristol.
The scheme will be located close to UWE’s Frenchay campus in the north-east of the city. Bowmer + Kirkland has been selected as the main contractor, and works are due to commence in Q3 2024.
It buildings range from five storeys to nine storeys, arranged around a central courtyard, which includes communal and study spaces.
The scheme sets out to be highly sustainable, targeting EPC A, WiredScore Platinum and BREEAM Excellent ratings, and aims to be net zero carbon in operation.
The development is led by JLL, Canada Life Asset Management’s development and project manager.
Paul Smith, project management director at JLL, said: “Bristol is unsurprisingly one of the UK’s most attractive destinations for students, owing to its leading universities, fantastic nightlife and future employment prospects. But it needs to be able to house the influx of students that arrive every year in a way that is sustainable. Canada Life Asset Management has plans to do that and help ensure that Bristol, and UWE in particular, will remain at the forefront of young people’s choices of where to live, study and work for years to come”.
