Stockport Council and development partner Muse have got the go-ahead for the next phase of its £145m Stockport Exchange development.
The pair will now bring forward 4 Stockport Exchange, which will comprise 60,000 sq ft of offices with ground floor opportunities available for shops, cafés, bars or restaurants.
The scheme is targeting BREEAM Excellent and EPC A ratings, as well as WELL Gold accreditation.
Muse and the council have already delivered a 1,000 space car park, 60,000 sq ft of offices and a 11-bedroom Holiday Inn as part of the wider 400,000 sq ft project. The remaining phases include an additional 185,000 sq ft of grade-A office space and potentially up to 100 flats.
Colin MacAlister, cabinet member for economy, regeneration and housing at Stockport Council, said: “Stockport Exchange has been a popular choice for a diverse range of businesses and it’s good news that we now have future phases in the pipeline, to attract even more businesses, as well as creating employment opportunities and a range of good quality amenities. This latest milestone is a significant achievement with the potential to provide much-needed homes in a highly accessible location.”
Max King, project director at Muse, added: “Getting the green light for the next and final phases of development at Stockport Exchange is fantastic news as it’s the last piece in the puzzle for the blossoming business community that we’ve proudly created in the town. Still one of the most accessible locations in the North West, Stockport continues to prove popular with growing and established businesses looking for something a bit different that’s outside of Manchester but still highly commutable. Stockport’s wider regeneration and ongoing renaissance is only adding to this, making it a popular hub to work and live in.”
Savills advised on planning.
