Persimmon starts a new tale with Canterbury community

Persimmon Homes has been granted permission to develop a new neighbourhood on an 85-acre plot to the north of Hersden in Canterbury, Kent.

The developer will build up to 800 homes alongside a 3,229 sq ft café, 7,535 sq ft community building and mobility hubs. There will also be a 4,306 sq ft sports pavilion and open space, including playgrounds and sports pitches.

The proposals include three acres of land which will allow an extension to the existing Water Meadows primary school to the south of the site.

Elsewhere on the site, the developer will construct 32,292 sq ft of offices and 32,292 sq ft of light industrial facilities.

The masterplan, designed by FPCR, will be delivered in phases. Alongside the outline planning application, Persimmon has secured full planning permission for phase one, which comprises 261 homes of one to five bedrooms. About 30% of the first-phase homes will be classified as affordable.

DHA advised Persimmon on planning.
