Renaker’s proposed five residential towers in Manchester, one of which will become the tallest in the city, have been given the green light by the city council.
The decision was made in line with the planning officer’s recommendation last week.
The proposals, designed by architectural firm SimpsonHaugh, will bring forward a total of 2,388 homes on a 1.2 acre site at Great Jackson Street, and were lodged across two applications.
The first application is for a 71-storey tower, known as the Lighthouse, which will include 642 homes and a top-floor public restaurant. It will also include offices, public and private amenity space, 216 car parking spaces and 684 cycle spaces.
Upon completion, it will take over from the 65-storey South Tower at Deansgate Square as Manchester’s tallest building.
The second application is for The Green, which will provide 1,746 homes across four towers and 13,595 sq ft of commercial space, as well as 483 car parking spaces and 1,746 cycle spaces.
Neither scheme has an element of affordable housing.
