Indoor karting operator K1 Speed has agreed a deal to open a 90,000 sq ft flagship at Xsite Braehead in Renfrewshire.
The £5.5m investment will deliver one of the longest indoor racing tracks in the world at the former Snowfactor site.
Featuring a three-decked indoor karting track that spans more than 1km, the facility will be designed to accommodate up to 35 high-performance electric karts racing simultaneously. It will also feature an e-sports lounge equipped with racing simulators.
K1 Speed has some 100 locations worldwide, including 70 sites in the US.
Managing director of the UK business Matthew Holyfield said: “Our goal is to provide a top-tier entertainment experience that appeals to both casual racers and serious competitors. The new K1 Speed Braehead will embody our commitment to innovation, safety and fun. We chose XSite because of its vibrant community and love for motorsport and can’t wait to see the excitement this new venue will bring to Glasgow.”
Kitty Vaughan, head of UK leisure and F&B at Pradera Lateral, XSite’s asset manager, added: This addition not only enhances our leisure offering but also reinforces our commitment to providing inclusive and engaging experiences for all visitors.
“K1 Speed’s innovative approach and dedication to community engagement align perfectly with our vision for XSite Braehead.”
K1 said the venue is expected to attract a diverse audience from all over Europe – from go-karting enthusiasts and corporate businesses to families and casual gamers – offering an impressive entertainment experience.
The Snowfactor dry ski slope at Braehead closed in 2022 after its operator went into liquidation.
