Oxford poised to get first aparthotel

Marick Real Estate looks set to deliver Oxford’s first aparthotel after its plans were recommended for approval.

Marick proposes to turn the site at 38-40 George Street into a 145-bedroom hotel. It has agreed a 40-year lease with Dublin-based operator Staycity. If the plans are approved, Staycity will bring its Wilde premium brand to the city for the first time.

The aparthotel will comprise a mix of studios and one bedroom flats, each featuring a fully equipped kitchen as well as space to eat and relax. The aparthotel would also have a café, lounge, gym, laundry facilities and 24-hour reception. On the ground floor, Marick has proposed a new community space.

The scheme, designed by Studio Moren, is expected to achieve BREEAM Excellent and will be all electric.

The building was previously used a cinema but the lease agreement with Odeon has expired last month.

Bidwells is advising Marick on planning.
