L&G nears deal for Perry Barr homes purchase

Legal & General Affordable Homes is set to buy 238 homes in Birmingham City Council’s Perry Barr residential scheme.

The homes on plot 6 of the masterplan have been delivered across three blocks, with flexible amenity spaces. The site has been marketed by Avison Young.

The £500m Perry Barr masterplan has consent for 1,414 homes across 11 plots, including 312 affordable homes, with a further 500 homes at the wider village project in the centre of Perry Barr.

The masterplan has a troubled history. Birmingham council prepared new financing and disposal options in 2021 after plans for a £500m athletes’ village for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the city were scrapped in 2020.

Construction delays, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, were blamed for the decision to abandon ambitious plans to build accommodation for as many as 6,500 athletes.
