Berkeley gets nod to remove Fulham Gasworks tower

Berkeley Group’s St William’s Homes has been given the go ahead to remove one of three towers from its Fulham Gasworks scheme.

The housebuilder wanted a revision to the long-running plans as a result of amended fire safety regulations that require developers to add second staircases and extra lifts in tall buildings.

Plans for the development at Imperial Road, SW6, have been under way since 2018 and comprise almost 2,000 homes in towers of up to 40 storeys.

The removal of the tower will not reduce the total number of homes on the site, with homes that were set to be in the third tower redistributed across the wider scheme.

Planning adviser Lichfield said: “There would be no change to the housing mix across the wider development as a result of the proposed amendments, and the precise housing mix for the remaining phases will be determined at reserved matters stage.”
