The City of London Corporation’s planning officers have recommended the approval of proposals to turn an empty Fleet Street bank into a mini-golf and bowling venue, despite many objections.
The plans would see part of the ground floor and basement of 165 Fleet Street, EC4, turned into a leisure venue and noodle bar. The ground floor has been vacant since late 2021 and was most recently occupied by HSBC.
Objections were received from 30 residential and commercial neighbours, including three ward councillors. The main objects to the proposals were over the impact on the residential area, anti-social behaviour, public safety and impact on the character of the Fleet Street Conservation Area.
Responding to the objections, planning officers said: “The use would contribute to the function and character of the principal shopping centres providing local facilities for the City’s workforce, enhance vibrancy and retain an active retail frontage.”
The City planning committee will debate the project on 29 October.
