Plans for Station Quarter at Barking Riverside set in motion

London Borough of Barking & Dagenham has approved proposals for Station Quarter, the next phase of the 443-acre Barking Riverside development.

Station Quarter is an 11.1-acre neighbourhood being brought forward by Barking Riverside Ltd. It comprises a new overground station, river bus services, 1,000 homes, 21,500 sq ft of retail and commercial space and up to 73,200 sq ft of health and leisure space.

Barking Riverside Ltd, a joint venture between the mayor of London and L&Q, recently submitted an application to deliver 20,000 homes at the development, almost doubling the 10,800 in a previous application.

To date, some 3,500 new homes have received detailed approval, and 2,495 homes have been completed. In addition, four schools have been delivered. The first phase of the scheme lies to the west of Renwick Road and north of River Road and is largely complete. The jv is now building out the second phase of the masterplan, which lies to the north of the Boulevard and was granted planning permission in October last year.
