Solum Regeneration, a partnership between Network Rail and Kier Property, has been refused planning permission for a residential-led scheme including the redevelopment of Redhill railway station in Surrey.
The proposed plans included two residential blocks providing 255 homes, from studio flats to three-bedroom homes. The buildings would have ranged from 10 to 15 storeys and seven to 14 storeys in height.
The application was refused after Reigate and Banstead Borough Council received 2,000 letters of complaint, with campaigners saying the scheme would not suit the character of the town.
A previous application to build a supermarket and 150 homes on the site was approved but this has since expired.
