Odeon movies in to fill Cabot Circus cinema vacancy

Hammerson has signed Odeon to its Cabot Circus scheme in Bristol to provide a cinema offering following the closure of Showcase Cinema de Lux last year.

Odeon has signed for 53,000 sq ft at Cabot Circus and is expected to open next year. The number of screens is yet to be determined.

Showcase had operated a 13-screen cinema since 2008, but shut last November after terms could not be agreed on a new lease.

According to Hammerson, a new cinema was the most-requested leisure experience in a customer survey it conducted earlier this year.

Toby Tait, director of asset management at Hammerson, said, “Cabot Circus is proud of its record providing Bristol with a leading cinema which acts as a key draw to both our destination and the wider city centre.

“This new partnership with Odeon is the culmination of months of hard work to select the best operator and bring the latest technology and experience into a completely renewed cinema venue. It adds to our growing line-up of restaurants and entertainment venues, specifically introduced to boost day and night experiences at Cabot Circus in the heart of Bristol.”

Odeon is the 10th new occupier to sign at Cabot Circus this year. Other leisure signings include King Pins Bowl, which took 16,500 sq ft, and Treetop Golf. Restaurant signings included Six by Nico and Honi Poke, while retail leases were struck with Marks & Spencer and H&M.
