Student Tribe agrees £10.5m refi

Student Tribe has secured a £10.5m residential investment loan to refinance a portfolio of 50 student houses in multiple occupation in Birmingham, Leeds, Lincoln and Manchester.

The five-year facility was issued by Secure Trust Bank Real Estate Finance. It is the fifth deal between the businesses in five years.

The premium HMOs are located in popular student areas, including Fallowfield, Hyde Park and Selly Oak, and are currently being let out ahead of the 2025/26 student year.

Calum McInnes, founder of Student Tribe, said: “Over the five years of working with STB, we have built a strong relationship with the team, which continues to deliver excellent results and has done so here despite a couple of last-minute challenges.

“The quality of our housing stock is paramount, and I am pleased to say that demand is through the roof ahead of the next student year. It’s fair to say that working with STB has enabled us to focus on the main task at hand, and I look forward to working with them again in the future.”

Daniel Thornton, relationship director at STB Real Estate Finance, said: “It was a pleasure to work with Calum and Student Tribe once again. Over the past five years, we have been able to build a strong working relationship that is mutually beneficial.

“It’s important to remember that no two deals are the same, particularly those in the HMO sector. By sharing a strategy with the client, this allowed us to adapt to their needs and offer a bespoke approach to the facility. As an experienced lender in providing student accommodation investment finance, we are on hand to tackle the challenges faced by developers and investors to ensure the student HMO sector continues to prosper for the foreseeable future.”
