Norwich gets further £19m boost for Anglia Square regen

Norwich City Council is set to push ahead with its plans to regenerate Anglia Square after securing an additional £19m from the Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund.

The deal brings the total grant to £34m, which is expected to cover acquisition, demolition, remediation and development of Anglia Square.

The council purchased Anglia Square from Colombia Threadneedle Investments in December last year in a move to turn the site into a 1,100-home neighbourhood. Development plans also include retail, office and leisure spaces with landscaped gardens, a new neighbourhood centre, public realm and new cycling links across the city.

Demolition of the site is expected to start in the spring this year, with the council working with existing traders and tenants to provide business support, including help with relocation to a planned box park near Anglia Square or alternative premises in the city.

Mike Stonard, leader of Norwich City Council, said: “Norwich has always been innovative, progressive and has been at the vanguard of change over the years and now we are leading the way in building hundreds of new homes.”
