Breakthrough onboards Newmark for Oxford occupier hunt

Newmark Group has been instructed to assist with leasing on biotech research facility Trinity by Breakthrough in Oxford, marking the firm’s first step into the UK’s life sciences arena.

The firm, which rebranded subsidiaries BH2 and Gerald Eve as Newmark, will work alongside Carter Jonas.

The move comes as Newmark begins to build out the team in the sector, having hired Rupert Dando from the Savills science team in October last year and with more experts expected to join the business in the summer.

Trinity by Breakthrough, a life sciences jv between Tishman Speyer and Bellco Capital, is expected to be launched later this year. The scheme features 214,000 sq ft of laboratory, office and amenity space, as well as the first StudioLabs concept in the UK.

Tom Renn, senior vice president of acquisitions and development for Europe at Breakthrough Properties, said: “We have planned Trinity by Breakthrough as a vibrant full-service life sciences ecosystem inspired by the rich scientific history of Oxford. Trinity by Breakthrough will provide high-quality lab and office space to a market in desperate need of new supply.

“We look forward to working with the knowledgeable teams at Newmark and Carter Jonas to help find companies within the life sciences sector looking for premier commercial R&D space.”
