JV reveals Salford retail-to-resi plans

Imco and Forshaw Group have revealed plans to transform the former Riverside Retail Park on Ordsall Lane in Salford, Greater Manchester, into a waterfront community.

The regeneration project is set to create 808 homes across three buildings. The joint venture partners have also proposed to deliver a two-storey mixed-use pavilion building.

Elsewhere, the public realm will be upgraded and connect the new development to the existing River Irwell walkway.

The existing Riverside Retail Park will continue to trade until planning is secured, with McDonald’s, KFC and Grosvenor Casino currently occupying the site proposed to be demolished to make way for the new scheme.

A spokesperson for the project said: “Riverside Place will breathe new life into this brownfield site, drawing upon the area’s rich history and local character, while paying homage to its past as the former Globe Bottling Works. The pavilion building creates a genuine opportunity to provide new facilities serving both the development and existing community, while opening up the riverside for everyone to enjoy.”

A public consultation will take place next month.
