£19bn of regeneration targeted through West Midlands site-selection platform

The West Midlands is seeking to stimulate more than £19bn in regeneration investment through a UK-first, proprietary investment platform targeting both domestic and international developers. Launched today at the UKREiiF property conference by West Midlands mayor, Richard Parker (pictured), the new digital platform, Site Selection WM, showcases a curated portfolio of high-potential investment opportunities, reinforcing the region’s ambition to lead national economic growth.

The platform features detailed, real-time data on more than 60 key development and occupier sites across the region. It provides insights on planning status, land use, investment categories and sector alignment. It also includes local market intelligence such as demographic data, nearby amenities, innovation hubs and transport connectivity, including links to HS2 and the Metro.

The launch comes ahead of the upcoming West Midlands Local Growth Plan, due next month, which will highlight place-based regeneration and introduce a new Spatial Development Strategy.

Site Selection WM was developed by the West Midlands Growth Company in collaboration with the West Midlands Combined Authority and local authorities including Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton councils.

The platform highlights some of the region’s most significant regeneration opportunities, including once-in-a-generation masterplans around HS2 hubs, town centre renewal projects, affordable housing schemes and employment sites focused on innovation. Key developments showcased include:

  • Smithfield Birmingham – a £1.9bn transformation of 17 hectares in the heart of the city.
  • Arden Cross – a £3.2bn, 140-hectare development centred on the first HS2 Interchange Station outside London.
  • West Bromwich Town Centre – a major, multi-phase regeneration scheme backed by the UK’s largest Towns Deal funding award.

The platform also features the West Midlands Investment Zone (WMIZ), which combines capital investment, tax relief, and business support to drive innovation-led growth. The WMIZ is anchored by three key sites:

  • Coventry-Warwick Gigapark – specialising in electric vehicle and battery production.
  • Birmingham Knowledge Quarter – focused on digital tech and medical technology research and development.
  • Wolverhampton Green Innovation Corridor – supporting the expansion of green industries.

In addition, Site Selection WM helps current and prospective occupiers by mapping available and upcoming commercial property options across the region.

Richard Parker, mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Showcasing over 1,500 acres of regeneration opportunities, Site Selection WM effectively captures the enormous scale of West Midlands ambition. By offering a more innovative and transparent way to explore a range development sites, it marks a step-change in how the region engages the global investor community.

“From town-centre revitalisation projects, to forward-thinking, affordable housing-led schemes, bringing forward the right infrastructure is critical to my mission of fostering growth for everyone”.
