Hyperama has bought 4.04ha (10 acres) of the 11.7ha (29 acre) Cygnus Business Park near West Bromwich from the Black Country Development Corporation for £6.5m.
Hyperama intends to build a 13,953 sq m (150,000 sq ft) cash and carry warehouse on the site. Construction will start in May with the building operational from early 1997.
The scheme will create around 150 jobs and the cash and carry will serve independent retailers, caterers and the business community throughout the West Midlands. Consultants Hough Gould advised Hyperama.
Ian Knight, Black Country Development Corporation’s disposal manager, said: “Although the site was originally targeted for industrial uses, its development for commercial enterprise means that the project proceeded without any requirement for grant assistance from the Corporation.”
