The Links Consortium, a joint venture beween ICP Properties and Avoncrest Developments, plans to submit proposals for a 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) factory outlet centre in Weston-super-Mare, later this month.
The 6ha (15 acre) site earmarked for the scheme fronts Herluin Way, an extension of a new distributor road which leads to the M5’s Junction 21. The consortium’s plans include the construction of a new roundabout on Herluin Way which will provide direct access to the £10m development.
An application by Value Retail for an outlet centre adjacent to Junction 21 was withdrawn last year following widespread opposition. But ICP’s Roy Callow is optimistic his proposals will fare better because they involve the reclamation of a derelict site close to the town centre and the Weston Retail Park. In addition the developers intend to run a free shuttle bus service between the outlet scheme and the town centre.
