Retail section of 242ha mixed-use scheme in Hull gets go-ahead

Hull council has granted Kingswood Development Company (KDC) detailed planning consent for a 7,199sq m (77,000sq ft) retail park on part of its 242ha (600 acre) agricultural land holding at Kingswood, north Hull.

The site – one of the largest earmarked for mixed development in the country – has outline consent for retail, office, industrial and leisure uses. There is also consent for 4,500 new homes to be built over the next 10 years. The land is owned by the Needler family, which bought the site over 50 years ago. KDC is working with Osprey Commercial Properties on the development.

A 7,896sq m (85,000sq ft) Asda superstore is under construction and is scheduled to open in November. There will be eight retail warehouses on an adjacent site. According to Nicholas Procter, of agent Procters, the retail park has unrestricted A1 retail consent. The other joint agents are Weatherall Green & Smith and Penrose Pearce and Hodges.

Access to the Kingswood development, which borders Beverley Council’s area, will be via the new A1079 Ennerdale link road from Hull city centre. It includes over 40.47ha (100 acres) of land for B1, B2 and B8 uses, as well as car showrooms and leisure operators.
