The Sheffield Development Corporation is to invest £2.4m in the regeneration of the Attercliffe district, Sheffield.
At present, there are 929 sq m (10,000 sq ft) of empty offices and 418 sq m (4,500 sq ft) of empty shops in Attercliffe, which the SDC hopes to regenerate in partnership with the private sector.
Already, work has started on refurbishing the Wosskow Brown’s 4,645 sq m (50,000 sq ft) Banners Building, Attercliffe Common. Another SDC venture – the 1,393 sq m (15,000 sq ft) Adelphi nightclub on Vicarage Road owned by Jack Wright and Archie McNeil – opened last month.
An SDC spokesman said: “Attercliffe is the best untapped location for office and distribution companies in the Lower Don Valley and we want to agree refurbishment schemes by Christmas to kickstart the area.”
