Birmingham Council is working to introduce high-tech working methods to its 400,000 employees in a bid to cut spending on offices. The aim is to free up enough offices to sell two city centre properties to developers. The proceeds could be used for other construction projects.
The council hopes to reduce spending on accommodation by 20% this year and a further 10% next year. There are plans to increase teleworking by moving staff to satellite offices in schools, libraries and leisure centres.
