On site meetings were taking place in Nottingham yesterday to assess the damage caused to the former Pearsons building in Long Row by Sunday’s fire, which badly damaged shops occupied by Habitat, RJ’s and Next shops.
Jane Ellis, the city centre manager, was quoted as saying the council was helping to find temporary accommodation for the retailers. However, Susan Knight, of the Nottingham office of Lambert Smith Hampton, believes that this could be difficult. “There is just nothing available at present unless they can persuade other retailers to move”, she said.
The one available large unit – Taylor Clarke Properties’ 2,601sq m (28,000sq ft) building in Clumber Street – has just been taken by Lillywhites. Habitat’s store totals 1,380.67sq m (14,862sq ft).
