New £98m performing arts centre for regenerated waterfront in Bristol

A £98m centre for performing arts is proposed for Bristol’s regenerated waterfront. It will have a concert hall with seating for 2,300 people and a second auditorium seating 450. The centre will be the region’s largest purpose-built venue of its kind. It will have a multi-faceted roof and angular glass planes to maximise natural light and reflect sky and water.

Construction costs are put at £66m. Bristol city council is donating the site with a land value of £18m. The architect is the Stuttgart-based Behnisch & Partners. The scheme is part of Harbourside, a public and private sector joint venture to regenerate 26.71 neglected hectares (66 acres) alongside the city’s quays.
