Chesterton Consulting has been appointed to advise on two PFI projects in Northern Ireland.
The Western Education and Library Board has appointed Chesterton as lead advisor on the procurement of new teaching accomodation. The premises are intended for the North West Institute of Further and Higher Education in Londonderry.
It will be the Province’s first PFI project in the education sector and involves a £12m phased redevelopment of the Institute’s 26,628 sq m (286,630 sq ft).
In a separate development, the Department of Education in Northern Ireland has commissioned Chesterton to conduct a UK-wide study into the viability of procuring new and refurbished schools through PFI. The five-month study will focus on 120 priority projects across a range of schools in the province, with a combined capital value of more than £200m.
Chesterton’s Eric Munro, lead consultant on the study, said: “It will allow private sector organisations to give their views on how PFI schools projects should be brought to the market.”
