EP’s plan for £20m business park near Grimsby is referred to Environment Secretary

English Partnerships’ plan for a £20m business park on the north side of the A180 between Healing and Great Coates in Lincolnshire has been referred to the Secretary of State.

If the plans are accepted, the 50.85ha (125.65 acre) site, currently owned by a private landowner, would be redeveloped as B1, B2, B8 and A2 space.

North East Lincolnshire Council is understood to be prepared to grant the scheme consent – even though it currently contravenes the authority’s Development Plan.

But a spokesman for the council’s planning department said: “While the land is presently zoned for agricultural use, the next Development Plan will, I’m sure, zone this land for commercial use.”

Bernie Roome of Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick, who is representing EP, said: “The scheme would be built on a speculative basis. It is EP’s intention to buy the land off the landowner once the scheme gains consent and then sell plots off individually.”

He added that EP hopes that demand for the scheme will be generated by the expansion of the nearby Courtaulds plant.
