Food retailer Morrison close to deal on new 13,935 sq m HQ in the West Riding

Bradford-based retailer William Morrison is close to a deal on the relocation of its headquarters. Chairman Ken Morrison told EGi that a 3.64ha (9 acre) site had been identified “somewhere in the West Riding” for a new 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) headquarters building.

A formal announcement is expected shortly, according to Morrison, once staffing issues have been resolved. But Leeds-based office agents say that there are only a handful of sites in the region suitable for such a requirement.

At the same time the group has announced four acquisitions which will culminate in the opening of new stores in 1997. The purchases have been made in Ecclesfield, Sheffield; Cheadle Heath, Stockport; Sunderland and Northampton.
