The MOD has put the 389 ha (961 acre) former USAF air base at Bentwaters in Suffolk back on the market through Bidwells.
An official for the department said the decision to break off negotiations with the Chris Parker Group (CPG), of Northampton, was taken because of “missed deadlines.” The former air base near Woodbridge, was placed on the market early in 1995.
CPG’s revised plans included 535 houses; 5,703 sq m (61,388 sq ft) of B1 space; a primary school; and landscaping. In June, Suffolk Coastal Council declared itself minded to approve the plans, subject to Section 106 agreements.
CITI Holdings, an educational services company based in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, has announced that it will seek to reopen negotiations with the MoD to purchase the former air base. It is proposing a business airpark and a university for the site, but the firm has not made a planning application.
