Retailers queue up for £20m retail and leisure park in Warrington, Cheshire

A department store and five major retailers are understood to be negotiating with Modus Properties for space in a £20m retail and leisure park on the A49 Winwick Road in Warrington, Cheshire.

Allders is believed to have expressed interest in anchoring the 15,580 sq m (200,000 sq ft) development. If Allders signs up, it would be the first department store to open in the town. The other retailers rumoured to be talking to Modus are Sears, Next, JJB Sports, Greenalls and First Leisure.

Once detailed consent has been granted, work on site is scheduled to begin next year. Warrington Council has already granted outline permission for the scheme.

Brendan Flood, managing director of Manchester-based Modus, believes that the park will lure shoppers away from the out-of-town Gemini Centre and back into central Warrington.
