Virgin announced plans for what is claimed to be the country’s largest cinema complex. The Leeds centre will have 5,000 seats and 20 screens. It is scheduled to open in 1998. It will be followed by a 15-screen cinema in Bolton and an 11-screen complex in South Shields. Virgin plans to open six new cinemas in the next 18 months.
A £50m fast rail link between the City and Heathrow airport, backed by Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, could get the go-ahead from BAA later this month.
