Rover launched a fresh appeal for government help to enable the company to push ahead with a £500m engine plant in the Midlands. It will produce 400,000 vehicles a year for Rover and BMW cars.
BMW has given Rover the go-ahead to expand production from 500,000 to between 700,000 and 800,000 by the turn of the century.
