Michael Hesseltine is to launch a £110m project to build Millennium Point, a science and technology centre in the middle of Birmingham. It will have financial backing from the Millennium Commission.
The development will include a research and development centre for manufacturing industry, an education centre for the region’s schools and a high-tech tourist attraction based on the theme of discovery.
Government officials and local authorities in the west Midlands have already earmarked £22.5m of European Union regeneration funds.
